Day 8 Travel to Natchez State Park
Up at 7:00, did some OT work, took dogs for walk. Gina slept in until 8:30. Traveling day to Natchez State Park. I secured outside – much easier this time, maybe starting to figure it out. I got on top of the trailer and brushed off all the leaves on the slide out, while up there I snapped a couple of pics of the site.
Helped gina do the inside. Had to stop at sewer station – no issues there – another positive sign that we are becoming RVers. Didn’t leave park until 12:30 (we do have to speed that process up) and had a 4 hour drive. Two route choices – 1 mostly interstate, the other mostly state roads. Decided the latter. Some of the roads were bouncy, particularly sections of 49 heading north through the state forest. Gina wanted to stop for some coffee but there “aint no starbucks” in middle Mississippi. There are occasional farmers stands but we didn’t notice them until we drove by at 65mph. and there “aint no U turns” with the trailer. All in all the drive was very boring and took about 4 hours. We finally made it to natchez at 5:00 and upon arrival some asshole had taken our reserved campsite – even despite our name being posted on a “this site is reserved” sign. Some people in the world just don’t give a shit about others. It took us about 30-45 minutes to find another site that was not reserved before setting up. The park ranger at Natchez was useless. I asked him to go find out who those people were and he did not want the confrontation. He avoided them like the plague – very odd to me because most of the state park people love to enforce the rules.
After we set up we headed into Natchez for dinner – Gina picked out The Kings Tavern – situated in the oldest building in Natchez – built in the 1700’s. Dinner and cocktails were good – the guy that owned the place was from Miami and actually spent some time in Florianopolis Brazil where Lily did a semester abroad. Small world. We made it back to the RV about 9:30. Took the dogs for a walk and noticed the incredible brilliance of the stars. This campground is out in the woods and there are no external lights obstructing the vividness of the stars. Big and Little Dippers were brilliant, but it was cold so into the trailer and Lights Out.
